A note on lifting projections
author
Abstract:
Suppose $pi:mathcal{A}rightarrow mathcal{B}$ is a surjective unital $ast$-homomorphism between C*-algebras $mathcal{A}$ and $mathcal{B}$, and $0leq aleq1$ with $ain mathcal{A}$. We give a sufficient condition that ensures there is a proection $pin mathcal{A}$ such that $pi left( pright) =pi left( aright) $. An easy consequence is a result of [L. G. Brown and G. k. Pedersen, C*-algebras of real rank zero, textit{J. Funct. Anal.} {99} (1991) 131--149] that such a $p$ exists when $mathcal{A}$ has real rank zero.

full textA Note on Lifting Brauer Characters
A Brauer character of a finite group may be lifted to an ordinary character if it lies in a block whose defect groups are contained in a normal p-solvable subgroup. By the Fong-Swan theorem [2, Theorem 72.1], an irreducible Brauer character of a finite p-solvable group G may be lifted to an ordinary (complex) character of G. In other words, every Brauer character is the restriction of some ...
full textA Note on Cofinitely δ-Lifting (Supplemented) Modules
It is proven that a ring R is δ-semiperfect if and only if every right R-module is (amply) cofinitely δ-supplemented. Mathematics Subject Classification: 16L30, 16E50
full textA note on lifting isomorphisms of modules over PIDs
This note has been written to supplement Keith Conrad’s [1], though it is largely independent of the latter. I am going to show some (rather elementary) properties of free modules over PIDs and apply them to drop the “full submodule” resp. “nonzero determinant” restraints which qualify many statements made in [1]. Thanks are due to Keith Conrad for a correction and helpful remarks. The LaTeX so...
full textA Note on Variance Decomposition with Local Projections
We propose and study properties of several estimators of variance decomposition in the local-projections framework. We find for empirically relevant sample sizes that, after being bias corrected with bootstrap, our estimators perform well in simulations. We also illustrate the workings of our estimators empirically for monetary policy and productivity shocks.
full textA Note on Counting Connected Graph Covering Projections
During the last decade, a lot of progress has been made in the enumerative branch of topological graph theory. Enumeration formulas were developed for a large class of graph covering projections. The purpose of this paper is to count graph covering projections of graphs such that the corresponding covering space is a connected graph. The main tool of the enumeration is Pólya’s theorem.
